Project Playlist

As found on the internet, some sort of new (to me, anyway) social sharing service.  The internet is like China, all capitalist in the name of communism.

But, still, this is good.

This service lets you create a free account, and then search for music to add to your personal playlist.  Apparently, it's good for throwing up on your mySpace and mySpace like accounts  or other webholes you may have a piece of your soul on.

Project Playlist claims to be something akin to Google or Yahoo! for music.  I have to say that while my results were hardly definitive while searching, it's still apparently in beta, and I was looking for some strange shit from time to time.  It seems to pick a lot of stuff up from artist websites and music blogs.  They even claim to pay royalties to the artists, so that Lars can buy that solid gold swimming pool or whatever it was he wanted.

As far as finding new music, while there is a 'buzz' section, it's not very intuitive, it just seems to list the most recent additions.  Not necessarily buzzworthy for something that is essentially just trolling for music files.  But for bands and artists I am aware of or have heard buzz about in other circles, it's easy enough to try and find at least a song or two by the artist.

It's that lack of intuition that means that it won't replace last.fm or Pandora for me, especially the mashup (links to the right), but it's still pretty cool and I can share the playlist with everybody either at my project playlist page or on my mySpace page.  But as far as placing it here in wordpress, I would need to find the proper plugins, or the playlist would need to code itself so that it could be used here.  I'm sure you could work it out, if you had the energy or time.

So, overall, project playlist seems to be a worthy endeavor, and I hope to see it grow and become something very cool overall.

Thanks to A.H. for the lead.

2.3 and the Ill-Literati

So while I'm waiting for WordPress 2.3 to be jimmied up into the Fantastico thingy so that I can make nice clean upgrade, I'm doing little as far as fucking around with certain aspects of the blog.  No point in finding plugins to do things if the new version will do them for me.  And even if the new version won't, nice to be sure that the plugins will work first, eh?

But here's the plan for the next stage.

At the moment, the old site is labeled 'old site'.  That will soon be modified to be 'Ill-Literati', which will be a separate part of the site, where other members of the ill-literati can and should continue to post.

Especially The Dude.

But more on that as it prepares to happen. Also want to make sure that the ill-literati will continue to participate.

Goodnight.

Mommy Just Isn’t The Same Anymore

A film by some people I know from the old stomping grounds.  They make movies.  Sometimes, apparently, they make short zombie horror flicks.  And who doesn't like that?

Mommy Isn't The Same Anymore

They have it entered at ChillerTV.com. Check it out, and vote.  Because, hey… Vote or Die, right.  And by die, I mean the kind of undead dying that you get from fucking zombies. While you're there, check out some of the other films.  There's some good shit up there.

When you're done, you can check out more Cypher Films stuff at their web-hole or their MySpace page.

That is all.

Ramble, bamble, scurry and scramble…

.: The biggest problem I have with Ubuntu & Linux at the moment, is the lack of decent support from hardware/software manufacturers.  I’m not asking for anything huge.  I’m not looking for Halo3 or anything.  I just want a fucking driver so that my HP CD-Writer will burn–or heaven help me–even play a CD.  It’s not too much of a problem at the moment.  The machine has a DVD-Rom drive that plays CD’s (though, I haven’t tried a DVD in there yet), and I can shuttle mp3’s to the Windows laptop I commandeered from upstairs through the network and burn them at my 5 o’clock.

Apparently, I can recompile the Linux kernel so that the burner will work.  But I hardly have time for that at the moment, what with all the fucking TV I’m behind watching at the moment.

.: Friends, rejoice if you want.  I actually called a doctor today to make an appointment for a checkup and some looking into of twitchy problems I have.  Of course, by the time I got home and called, I spent ten minutes on fucking hold so that I could leave a message on the voicemail.

But it’s progress.  I’ll try and call again from work tomorrow.

.: And work sucks.  I fucking swear, every time I seem to get caught up on one thing, five more get piled up on the desk.  I have no support.  I have no desire to actually get anything done, beyond the feeling that I feel like life is just fucking with me, and hey, fuck you life.

But you know what, until I actually see the doctor and let him tell me what if anything is wrong with me, I have to say that life is good enough at the moment.

.: Pip is moving in with me for two and a half months.  This is the 11 year old daughter of one of my best friends.  Well, three months really.  Gantor is moving to fucking Florida, but until she gets settled and actually decides that the move is permanent, we see no point in actually pulling Pip out of school.  So, she’ll be moving into the spare bedroom until Christmas break, at which point she’ll be torn from me, unless Gantor sees reason.

.: Worth listening to: Kimya Dawson… Anti-Folk singer.  Link is to the Last.FM page for her song France, which I almost skipped, until I realized how fucking awesome it was.

.: Down to 8 smokes a day.  Working towards 5, but I’ll be happy with 7.  Eight is about three packs a week (but it’s still like 3 & 1/2 since I smoke a little more if I’m out drinking).

.: And Halo3 is out today.  And I has no X-Box Tree-Sitty.  So I bought ‘Enter the Matrix’ (for under $5) to play instead.  Bumped into an old friend while I was there.  Which was nice, but I fucking bet that she’s playing Halo3 right now.

Enough whining!

No TV and no beer make AngryBob something something…

I’m not watching TV tonight.

Partly because I’m down in deep13, sitting in front of the computer. I’m tinkering with a short story, jotting down ideas for strips and tooling on the site. I decided long ago (months ago) that I would no longer have the TV in the same room that I work, since one is always a constant distraction to the other. I either find myself not writing, or not watching something I really wanted to see, and then rewinding it ad infinitum until I finally get the fucking hint and stop doing one or the other.

But also partly because season 2 of Heroes starts tonight and the finale of season 1 was so horribly fucking lame that I’m not sure of I want to invest another TV season (roughly one whole day of my life, not counting re-watches) in something that fails to pay-off at the end.

Because Heroes was fucking brilliant, overall. The first couple of season 1 episodes really captured me, and then the next bunch really had me thinking ‘why the fuck am I wasting my time?’ because nothing was fucking happening for a while there. Then the second half of the season absolutely blew me away. It was one of the few shows that I was watching in real-time (as opposed to the DVR) because I couldn’t wait to see what they were up to.

Then that season finale. That aching piece of shit that failed me miserably in all aspects. Especially since it was followed by the abso-fucking-lutely brilliant LOST season ender a couple of nights later.

The Heroes season finale consisted of (allow me to test new plugin at the same time):
Everybody comes together, finally. Peter and Hiro kinda fight Syler while everybody just fucking watches. Syler is kinda defeated, at which point Peter is going to blow up in accordance to the prophecy. Everybody watches some more as Nathan shows up in time to fly Peter up up and away where he can blow up peaceable like.
Wow. That sucked.

I’ll watch season 2. I know I will. I can’t help myself at the moment, since most of season 1 really was kick ass. But I hope that for me this season, the destination at least worth the fucking journey.

I should have gone to the bar.

It’s been one of those days.

You know the ones I mean. Those days when you get up, go to a job for 8 hours just so you can buy enough alcohol and stimulants to keep you going so that you can do it all again.

On the bright side, I did have dinner with Ill-ExPat, The Dude.

He didn’t say hi to you, so don’t fucking ask.

So I’ve been tooling with the site, and so far I like what I’ve got going on here.

Except that some of my categories seem to have gone missing. What the fuck is that about?

I won’t worry about it tonight, seeing as how I still have to watch Dr. Who and Torchwood tonight before I go to bed.

A smarter man would have gone to the bar, but I feel positively shitty. And if that’s not an oxymoron, I don’t know what is.
