AngryBob Increases Technology

.: Yes he does.  At least, in his own life anyways.

I am increasingly accepting that the future of computing is the internets.  The cloud.  The datasphere.  At the same time, I am increasingly convinced that this is ultimately dangerous in many ways.

For starters, I do not trust the human race with all of my pictures, writings, and other creations.  One day, the net will crash and all my shit will be lost as I try to escape radioactive mutants, zombies and regular people who want to eat me, whilst I run away with my shake n’ glow flashlight.  So anything I google doc., I backup on my hard drive.  It’s redundant and as some may claim, unnecessary.  But it is nice to be able to work on anything I’m writing no matter where I am as long as I have net access.

What I want is the ability to automatically sync my files, so that saving from work to google to home to google to the laptop to google is all automated.  Apparently there is a ‘google gear’ that does this, so I must check it out.

So I am joining the cloud.

.: Part of joining the cloud brings me to my new cell phone.  Some of you may remember me as the guy who did not want a cell phone.  The idea of being able to be contacted by anyone at any time bothered the living fuck out of me.  But then I had kids.  And suddenly, being able to have someone get a hold of me in an instant seemed to be very, very important.  So I got a ‘pay as you go’ phone.  And for three years, I paid as I went.  But lately, I seemed to be on the damn thing a lot.  People are trying to text me.  People want me to take pictures of monkey tattoos on their asses with my phone, only to shake their heads with confused disappointment when they see that I have no camera on my phone.

So I bit the bullet and actually got a for real cell phone complete with a contract and all sorts of bells and whistles.

I love my phone right now.

I got a Samsung M520 slider from Sprint.  I went with the ’simply everything plan’, which is actually what it will cost me each month.  But now I no longer have to count my minutes.  I can send and recieve text messages easily.  I can take a picture of the homage to Hagar the Horrible that someone has tattooed on their junk and send it to you as a picture mail message. Or i can save it to photoucket. Or I can email it to you through my Gmail account.  Or I can post it here on my blog.  When done, I can listen to my mp3’s.  Or streaming radio.  Or watch TV.  Then I can use the GPS Navigation to drive home and take a picture of my own ass as it walks through the door.

Or I can call you.

It does other shit, too.

.: I can Twitter from my phone.

That’s the other thing I’m doing now.  I’m twittering.  For those of you who don’t know what Twitter is, it’s basically the MySpace/Facebook ’status’ thing, but other twitterers can follow each status update on the web or–as I know do–on their phones as text messages.

You can see the twitter in the side bars.  It’s my last five twitters.  When I post, it will twitter.  You can find my twitter at http://twitter.com/dharmabob. Follow me if you’d like.  Comment below with your twitter and I’ll check you out.

.: That’s about it for the night.  Have a good one.
